This mixed media installation shows an old sewing machine and several patchwork quilts made from collected fabric pieces. The sewing machine once belonged to my grandmother and was part of her dowry. It stands for strength and survival, as she used it to make a living and support the artist’s family. The quilts are made of fabric pieces given by different families and cultural groups. This follows a tradition where people give quilt pieces to a newborn baby to wish them safety, love, and protection.
